What is Spouse Open Work Permit (SOWP)?
An International Student on Study Permit or a Skilled worker on Work Permit can apply for a Work Permit for Spouse/Partner before or after they arrive in Canada. An Open Work Permit enables your spouse or partner to work full time while you study or work in Canada. The Work Permit will be issued for the same length of time as your Study or Work Permit. Your Spouse /partner does need a Job offer to apply for Work Permit.
What are the requirements for Spouse Open Work Permit (SOWP), if spouse is on Study Permit?
- Valid Passport :- A Passport should be valid for the duration of Work Permit in Canada, as the validity of a Work Permit can not exceed the validity of the Passport. You may renew your Passport before you submit your application.
- Medical Certificate :- You must see a Doctor on the list of Panel Physicians.
- Photograph :- The Photograph must show the full front view of the head, with the face in the middle of the photograph, and include the top of the shoulders. The size of the head from chin to crown must be between 31 mm and 36 mm. The frame size must be at least 35 mm X 45 mm.
- Biometrics :- Biometrics are usually required for foreign nationals that are applying for the visa to come to Canada. Biometrics include the foreign nationals’ fingerprints and Photograph. There is also fee associated with giving Biometrics. Their purpose is to allow Canadian officials to confirm a foreign traveller’s identify when they enter Canada.
- A Valid Study Permit and should have 6 months or longer validity at the time of application.
- Proof of full time student at a Designated Learning Institution(DLI).
- Proof of College Fee Receipt
- Proof of Financial Support
- Proof of ties to your Home Country
- Proof of Relationship
